Throughout 2022, Bacalhôa- Vinhos de Portugal will carry out a series of initiatives aimed at professionals and consumers, celebrating the 100th anniversary of one of the largest and most dynamic companies in the wine sector in Portugal, present in the largest markets of the world.

The history of Bacalhôa-Vinhos de Portugal begins in 1922, with the foundation of the firm João Pires & Filhos, a company dedicated to the bulk marketing of wines produced by it from grapes purchased on the Setúbal Peninsula. At the end of the 1970s, the company began a new phase in its history, marked by its commitment to vineyards and its own brands and, above all, by the extraordinary dynamism and pioneering spirit, with the production of wines based on concepts, profiles and techniques never before previously experienced in our country. Thus, brands of great uniqueness and notoriety were born, such as Quinta da Bacalhôa, Catarina, Cova da Ursa Chardonnay or JP, among many others. A new cycle of growth and consolidation took place from 1998 onwards, with the purchase of the company by the Berardo family and, in the following years, the acquisition of the emblematic Quinta da Bacalhôa, in Azeitão, Quinta do Carmo, in Estremoz, and Aliança , in Sangalhos, later integrated into the BacalhôaVinhos de Portugal group, named after 2005. This cycle was also marked by a commitment to wine tourism. The Bacalhôa Buddha Eden, in Bombarral, the Aliança Underground Museum, in Sangalhos, the Bacalhôa Palace and the Adega Museum, in Azeitão, the Quinta do Carmo and the Berardo Estremoz Museum, in this Alentejo city, and the B-MAD Museum, located in Alcântara, are absolute references regarding the connection between wine and tourism. In the year in which it celebrates its centenary and begins a new cycle, the company's main challenge is the implementation and consolidation of the Bacalhôa Group's Sustainable Production Project, started in 2020. Bacalhôa-Vinhos de Portugal firmly believes in the enormous added value sustainability, transversally to its activity. Therefore, there is no shortage of reasons to celebrate 100 years of business life associated with a very rich history, full of pioneering spirit, creativity, dynamism and commercial success. Throughout 2022, Bacalhôa-Vinhos de Portugal will thus celebrate its Centenary with professionals and connoisseurs, through various events and initiatives, to be announced in stages and in due course, and where culture, art, passion and, of course, wine, will always have a prominent place.
